The New Year belongs to the warriors.
Regardless of how you arrived at this point, there is a most undeniable and splendid truth.
You made it!
2021 simmered and at times threatened to emotionally boil over into a torrential down pour of despair and abject apathy. But those of us lucky enough to survive did not yield.
Much like Morpheus stood on the craggy precipice inside the hallowed grounds of Zion, the warriors of this bold new age screamed into the night air, WE ARE STILL HERE!
This year most definitely belongs to the warriors.
Think of it like this. Many of us like Neo having took the red pill in 2020 had awoken from our Matrix like slumber and realised just how deep the rabbit hole of racism actually goes. In 2021 following the shocking release of “The report of the Commission on Race and Ethnic Disparities” it felt like the machines were once again in control.
Reading those factually inaccurate and racially insensitive words had me recoiling into my home office chair. As I rested my head against the headrest I imagined the army of smith type agents multiplying with glee under the rhetoric “Britain does not have a racism problem”.
Sod it I’m going to see the Oracle.
Ok she’s not exactly the Oracle but my wife Maxine as the Managing Director of AboutFace Publishing is pretty damn close.
“Maxine, it feels like the Racism agent smith has grown stronger”. “It feels lie the architect has enabled him to grow and develop more ways for people to accept racism and privilege as the norm”. The Architect stands idly by and watches agents refuse to play by the same rules the rest of us trapped in the Matrix had to play by. While we stayed indoors and mourned the loss of many to the system and the pandemic both viral and racial, the architect and his cronies partied and frolicked in their own den of inequity.
You know why I have come to see you Oracle. What must I do?
Firstly Cliff (I mean Neo)
Take out the bins. I’ve been asking you since yesterday. Then you can pick your clothes up of the floor, your not 5 years old.
OK, OOOOKAY. But what about the Racist agents?
You already know what to do Cliff. Fight!
And Fight we did.
2021 saw my VW cover more miles them the Nebuchadnezzar. We accomplished the greatest of feats.
We delivered training to Schools, social health care professionals including social workers, teachers and others in the community. We delivered seminar after seminar and partnered with universities to produce real change.
I delivered key note talks to Kent county council and the Martin James Group amongst many others and in the face of rapid and ignorant challenges I stopped bullets.
I was not alone the team grew. Both in numbers and in ability. They all contributed. We published our first book “Africa’s New Coat” as well as developing more partnerships both nationally and internationally.
We did this while battling covid 19. Every one of us got it. We did this against all odds and the truth of that Matter is we couldn’t have done it without your support.
We are eternally grateful for your ongoing support in accessing our training and taking up the mantle and standing strong in the fight to end discrimination on all levels.
WE ARE WARRIORS AND WE ARE STILL HERE!!!!!!!
